Balm in Gilead for Communities of Color (BIG4COC) is a non-profit that consists of Black public health advocates who seek to call attention to health inequities within the Black Community, demand better health outcomes for Black Americans, identify problems and promote practical solutions. We produce and distribute podcasts, webinars, film trailers and consumer education campaigns to raise awareness about solutions to social determinants of health (SDOH) and syndemics in Black communities. A call to action is always central to what we do. We talk about the problems AND the practical solutions.
BIG4COC is led by a group of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) graduates, faith leaders and believers who are public health advocates steeped in the rich, uplifting and communal African “village” tradition of pride, purpose, power, protest, pedagogy, preaching, prayer, perception, protection, perseverance, passion, people, praise and peace.
Research indicates that Black-led nonprofits and public health advocates are underrepresented in the current consumer education marketplace addressing SDOH in Black communities. BIG4COC strives to change this imbalance and create a relevant landscape. Our materials are developed by Black professionals and shaped through their lens and framework to connect with Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color (BIPOC). We seek to tell the story about solutions to SDOH within Black communities using Black voices and representation. Our creative approach is superior and meets the highest standards of the industry. It is strategically sound, professionally crafted and successful in the marketplace.
BIG4COC is located in the Station North Arts & Entertainment District in Baltimore City across from Penn Station. Its building is within an HubZone/Opportunity Zone as designated by the federal government (Census Tract: 24510120500; Neighborhood: Greenmount West/Charles North).
